Special Education Teacher

The Equality Charter School, has an immeidate opening for a SPED certified co-teacher for an ELA classroom. This position would co-teach three classes on a daily basis for approximately 18-25 students per class.

The Equality Charter School, located in the Bronx, has an immediate opening for afterschool tutors. We are currently a 6-8 charter school. We are seeking a dynamic, energetic, motivated and inspiring tutors to teach our students and to become part of our growing team of educators.

This position would work 3:45pm-5pm each day. This position would starting as early as February 27th through April 5th. You would work with students on test prep, specifically writing.

Job Description
Standard 1: Manages Student Individualized Educational Plans (IEPs) for all Students with Disabilities (SWD): The Coordinator of Special Education manages student IEPs to ensure services are provided for all SWDs.
1.1 Coordinates the collection of all student IEP's from the New York City (NYC) Committee on Special Education (CSE) for current and new students.
1.2 At the beginning of each school year provides each teacher with an "IEP At a Glance" that contains a summary of student IEP information (disability, goals, instructional levels, etc.) and provides teachers with updates as new IEPs are developed and when new SWDs register to attend the school.
1.3 Compiles and maintains a list of all related services, sorted by related service, and enters information into a spreadsheet in order to track and bill for related services.
1.4 Works with the CSE to ensure that approved vendors provided for all related services mandated by the student's IEP that are not directly offered by the school.
1.5 Works collaboratively with the Social Worker to provide information regarding the list of students who require mandated counseling services.
1.6 Works with staff to collect Progress Toward Goal reports for all SWD's to coincide with general education student progress reporting times and report card times.
1.7 Assigns all SPED teachers a SPED caseload of students they oversee, support in IEP implementation, attend all CSE meetings, and support in the writing of the IEP.

Standard 2: Responsible for Attending and Providing Information for all CSE Meetings: The Coordinator of Special Education attends all CSE meetings and coordinates the staff in order for staff to attend and/or provide current information regarding the student's progress for CSE meetings.
2.1 Attends all CSE meetings for all SWD's and collects present levels of performance from all staff that work with the student to provide updated information to the CSE.
2.2 Coordinates coverage with the Associate Principal for staff members to attend CSE meetings as needed; ensures all leave request slips are on file at the school before CSE meetings.
2.3 Advocates for appropriate IEP services for all students.
2.4 Communicates with the CSE to ensure that the IEP is reflective of the services provided at Equality in order to ensure that this information is accurately entered into CAP for billing purposes.
2.5 Reminds all parents of SWD's of upcoming CSE meetings and solicits their attendance and input at these meetings.

Standard 3: Supports with Special Education Billing/Accounting Process: The Coordinator of Special Education supports with special education billing and accounting for Equality Charter School.
3.1 Completes all city, state and federal special education related reports and provides completed report directly to the Principal for review and submission.
3.2 Collects all student IEPs for new students immediately following each admission's cycle in the spring so that special education projections can be made and budgeted for the upcoming school year.

Standard 4: Supports the Instructional Program of the School: The Coordinator of Special Education supports the instructional program of the school by working along with Instructional Coaches to provide alternative instruction for students who are suspended and providing other support as requested by the administration of the school.
4.1 Oversees all classroom instruction by SPED teachers to ensure compliance to IEPs and differentiation of instruction for all students to access the curriculum.
4.2 Meets with ILT, as necessary, to support instructional program.
4.3 Coordinates with Instructional Coaches to provide all alternative instruction for students who are suspended and maintains documentation of alternative instruction provided for all students on every occasion.
4.5 Offers workshops and/or information for parents and/or students on topics related to special education in conjunction with Parent/Teacher Conferences to promote parent involvement and knowledge.
4.6 Attends ILT, SPED, data team, and student support team meetings in order to effect horizontal and vertical articulation of the instructional program.
4.6.1 Creates agendas for all SPED meetings and disseminates before meeting with all materials.
4.6.2 Ensures minutes and action items from all meetings are emailed within 24 hours of the meeting.
4.6.3 Analyzes all interim data for SPED students before Data Team, Curriculum, and ILT meetings and prepares comprehensive presentations for these meetings.
4.6.4 Analyzes and prepares comprehensive presentations regarding formative data for SPED students for Data Team, SPED, or ILT meetings when necessary.
4.7 Conducts regular classroom observations and provides supervision of SPED teachers as evidenced by observations posted on Teacher Logs. Conducts observations with Instructional Coaches when possible.
4.7.1 Minimum of 3 observations per SPED teacher with follow-up meeting notes and action items.
4.7.2 Exemplar of 5 observations per SPED teacher with follow-up meeting notes and action items.
4.8 Expectation of 100% of staff scoring "Basic" or "Emerging Proficiency" during classroom observation put on a Teacher Support Plan as evidenced by plans posted on teacher logs.
4.9 Conducts walk thrus of all classrooms to support with standards-based instruction, differentiation, and co-teaching model as evidenced by notes and follow up through teacher logs. Conducts walk thrus with Instructional Coaches when possible.
4.9.1 Minimum of 4 walk thrus per month.
4.9.2 Exemplar of 6 walk thrus per month.
4.10 Meets with every SPED teacher to debrief lesson plans, walk thrus, and teacher logs as evidenced through Teacher Logs.
4.10.1 Minimum of 3 times per month
4.10.2 Exemplar of 4 times per month
4.11 Attends after-school events including, but not limited to, Parent Orientation, Parent Teacher Conferences, and Open House Events.
4.12 Participates in weekly school committee meetings.
4.13 Attends faculty meetings.
4.14 Attends weekly Instructional Leadership Team meetings.
4.15 Supervises student lunches.
4.16 Completes other duties as assigned by school administration.
4.17 Supports the implementation of Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) and serves as a check in/check out person for our secondary PBIS intervention.
4.18 Demonstrates punctuality and good attendance for all duties.
4.19 Coaches SPED teachers under supervision to assist them accomplishing professional goals from their PDP plans
